INTRODUCING NCG RECIPIENT: NHYIRA ASANTE
ABOUT NHYIRA
Nhyira Oforiwaa Asante is a Ghanaian-American dancer, choreographer, and model based in New York City. She graduated magna cum laude from New York University with a B.F.A. in dance and a B.A. in sociology. Her dance training began at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and was further refined at various prestigious institutions including Dance Theatre of Harlem and The Ailey School. Nhyira has performed works by notable choreographers and was featured in Jacolby Satterwhite's digital installation at Lincoln Center.
As a choreographer, her work has been showcased at festivals like Battery Dance and Forza Dance. In 2022, she received the Upsurge Dance Festival choreographic mentorship for her solo "Oheema" and has served as an associate choreographer for the Stephen Sondheim Awards. Additionally, she has collaborated with brands and artists such as Kaliii and Travis Scott, and she currently mentors young artists through the New York City Department of Education and Lincoln Center Education.
