THRIVING INWARD: GUEST BLOG BY ALI ROBERTS

“Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”

-Emory Lord, When We Collided

When the whole world shifts, how do we? This is the lesson everyone had to learn in 2020, and we had to learn quickly the art of adaptation.

The world was introduced to SARS- CoV-2, the coronavirus. This virus would change the world and we didn't know what was coming in the months ahead. Years of the country and the world divided by politics, this virus would begin to connect us all again. As I am typing these words it feels strange to say this. How could a virus begin to connect the world?

It is because every single country on the planet was affected. And when the world is struggling with the same issue, it begins to connect the consciousness of all. People mourned the loss of loved ones, loss of freedom, loss of jobs, the loss of security to walk outside, and our anxiety, depression, loneliness and isolation were taken to new heights. How would we all pivot and learn to embrace this new normal, which seemed so un-normal?

In these moments, hours, days, weeks, and months are where the lessons would be learned. We were being challenged by the universe, which wanted us to wake up and live better. You may be asking yourself "what the heck is she saying?" "Live better in the wake of a global crisis?" YES. I am saying this. And if you feel any of the emotions I stated above, let me explain what I mean by really living.

We go through life rushing to fill the hours in the day, never enough time to get "it" all done. If we have kids the pivot was homeschooling. And the teachers had to learn to do this fast. Companies had to pivot to have all employees work remotely. Brick and mortar had to move to online sales models. This would challenge us all. Even the people, like myself, who already worked from home had to shift how it was being done because we were told the world outside our window was suddenly not safe and knowing we couldn't go out freely erupted anxiety we had never felt before. And then we all woke up...

It was now time to pivot and reinvent ourselves and learn from the lesson the universe dropped in our lap. Here are 5 steps I have personally done and teach about the art of the pivot/ the shift/ the reinvention - whatever YOU choose to call it.

1. CHOICE. Before any change can occur, we have to choose to want to do the thing we are trying to do. For me, as an example, I choose to wake up each day and be happy. Before I give my time away to the events in my day, I choose to give myself time to reflect on what is scheduled and how I will react to any crap that comes my way. I choose happiness to start each day, and I choose to release the day each night before I lay my head down to sleep. We cannot take today with us into tomorrow. Today is (a) present so accept what happened (good or bad) in the day and release it before you sleep. Remember, what stays in your head when you lay it on the pillow is what you will wake up with the next morning.

2. We become civilized in everyday life. The ebbs and flows of the days roll into one another, beginning to all look the same. The worst thing that happens to humans is to become civilized and stop reaching for our highest self. "You have to be uncommon amongst uncommon people." ~Dave Goggins Meaning it is not good enough to just be uncommon, we must strive to be better, stronger, kinder, more motivated, and work harder than the common human. And this may seem scary, but it is the one thing that pushes us into our greatness.

3. Spend time writing your goals. Go back to a time when you allowed yourself to dream. Before the weight of the world got heavy. Take pen to paper (as our brain receives and stores information better) and write out ALL your dreams as if you could have every one of them. Then begin to process what is something on your dream list that you could do today and make money doing. Find your passions and find your purpose today. It may be different than your dreams from childhood, or dreams from young adulthood. Or maybe it is the same and now you can see how to make it a reality. YOU have something the world needs.

4. Set boundaries for yourself and others around you. Determine what you are willing to accept and what you are not willing to accept. Have the tough conversations with people in your life who take you for granted, and more importantly, take accountability for who you may be taking for granted. Look at the closest people you spend time with. Surrounding ourselves with people we admire and respect, and who work each day to improve their life, will seep into you and you will feel the motivation to push yourself out of your comfort zone and try the next thing.

5. Acceptance. Learning to accept what was, and knowing the past does not define you in the first step to reinventing yourself. Accept how the world has changed and what you have learned works best for you. You will find what your heart desires and make that a reality, it all starts with choice and acceptance.

We all want to be proud of who we are and change who we used to be. If your life were a movie and it all started today - forget about the financial disasters, the childhood traumas, the pain and disappointment from past relationships you have had. What would the hero of your life movie do right now, today? DO THAT!

Our past does not define us. It does not define YOU. We all get to start again, each day to make a new story and be the hero of our movie. Like the butterfly, once a caterpillar, goes inward to the dark silence of their cocoon and with a little time is born again as a beautiful butterfly.

Build your confidence and your momentum. Anyone can do this, it all starts with a choice.

Ali Roberts | Wholistic Wellness Coach

Encompassing the Whole Being – Body, Mind, and Soul

I was broke and broken, a single mother living with a chronic illness and depression. My inner child/inner critic was screaming to be healed. Working in a career that never fulfilled my soul. Failing at every relationship. I was missing my purpose; I had lost my courage and my confidence. One day I woke up and said NO MORE! I left my 20-year corporate career and pursued my purpose to serve others. I became a certified Life (and Health) Coach and my life changed.

I understand my clients because I have been there. My approach to coaching is wholistic and encompasses our whole being, body, mind, and soul. This work includes you taking control of your emotional and physical health, setting attainable goals, and practicing mindfulness and movement. A true sense of happiness can only be reached when we accept that our health, relationships, and mindset all play a part. When we understand that happiness is an inside job, and finding happiness comes when we find purpose. The transformation when healing the inner child/critic sets you on a path to emotional freedom.

I am passionate about my work because helping people overcome adversity, rise, and become successful of self is deeply meaningful to me. I know there is a better way. Healing my inner child traumas and quieting my inner critic transformed my life, and it is my life's purpose to help people do the same and create a life they are proud of. I am grateful every day for my journey from physical and emotional illness to wellness and everything in between.

Your health is not an expense; it is an investment in your future self.

Becoming a coach came from the immense need to do the journey for me, and the responsibility to then share it with others. My #1 goal is to help women heal their inner child trauma, quiet the inner critic, and rise to feel empowered to change their lives for the better.
