ETD'S FIRST COMMISSION / by Andrew Tran

We are thrilled to announce Douglas Sills of the Sills Foundation has gifted Eryc Taylor Dance $10,000 commission to create a new work! This will be ETD's first full piece commission and we are truly honored to have the Sills' support, and the piece, "Cycles," will be dedicated to the Foundation in perpetuity.

“Cycles,” will be a sixteen minute abstraction of space and sea. The piece brings together two weightless environments and plays with the harmony between the two. The matrix that makes up all organisms is broken down and reassembled, sparking evolution. Using the natural movement of entropy to navigate the weightlessness and vacuum of space.

In March of 2017, I went to the ON TOP! Party hosted by Susanne Bartsch, and was lucky to meet a young man dawning a 3D rope sculpture dress that he created. He is a young up and coming NYC-based artist, attending New York University. I am now collaborating with Ether to create geometrical structures that outline the dancer's bodies, essentially an exoskeleton. Swarm Intelligence, British electronic artist, has been working very closely with me to create a soundscape that transports the listener into another world. None of this would have been possible without the extremely generous support from Mr. Douglas Sills.

In efforts to keep up the momentum, we are initiating a match gift program! We are asking each of our supporters to consider a gift of any amount to go toward the creation of new work and help match the $10,000 Sills Fund donation. If our patrons come through and we meet the goal, ETD will not only create, "Cycles," but would also be able to fully develop the set design, lighting, and costumes! You will also be recognized in the Playbill at our upcoming NYC season this October 2017.
